Welcome To Drop Secure 2007

Drop Secure is the easy-to-use personal encryption program.
You can quickly and simply encrypt and compress files by just dragging
and dropping the files on the drop secure window.
|
Encrypt a file
To encrypt files, you must be in encrypt mode. This is the default mode
of the application - you can also change to encrypt mode by clicking
the encrypt button on the top of the page, or choosing view, then encrypt
from the views menu.
Select a file from your desktop or file system and drag over the Drop
Secure Program while holding the left mouse button down. Release the
mouse button
when you are over the Drop Secure icon (the briefcase with the little
lock by it). The file will now be encrypted - you will find the encrypted
file
in the same location as the original.
|
Decrypt a file
To decrypt files, you must be in decrypt mode. You can go to decrypt mode
by selecting the decrypt button on the top of the page, or by choosing
view, then decrypt from the drop secure menu.
Select a file from your desktop or file system, and drag over the drop
secure program while holding the left mouse button down. Release the
mouse button when you are over the decrypt icon (the briefcase with the
unlocked
lock by it). The file will now be decrypted - you will find the decrypted
file in the same location as the original. In the case that you have received
this file from someone else via email or other method the document's
original will have the drop secure logo by it. You will need to enter
the appropriate password for that file that was assigned by the person
who encrypted it. This password may be different than the password you
use to encrypt your own documents.

|
Preferences
Preferences > Compression
Here you can choose
your compression type, and the strength of the compression you are
interested in. Best Compression takes longer to compress, while fastest
compression results in larger files.

|
Preferences > Encryption
Here you can choose the encryption method you wish to use, and set
a password to be used while encrypting and decrypting. If you wish
the password
to be saved, click the save password checkbox. Otherwise, you will
need to type it in each time you encrypt/decrypt a file. As you can see below
there are a few different types of ciphers to choose from. You can
choose multiple ciphers which will encrypt different
sections of your document separately for added security. When choosing
a password keep in mind that if you are sending the document to another
person they will have to know this password in order to decrypt the
document.
(for more
info on the ciphers we use click here.)

|
Preferences > Destination
By default, encrypted files appear right where the file you are encrypting
resides in the file system. You can change it so all encrypted/decrypted
files appear on your desktop, or in any other set location. Also,
you can choose to have files automatically attached to email.

|
Preferences > General
Here you can select whether or not you want the application to run
in the system tray. By choosing this option, you can keep Drop Secure
running
but out of the way until you need it.

|
File Queue
Additionally,
you can choose to enable or disable the file queue button. The file queue
works with the encrypt function to allow you to group several files together
before encryption begins.
|
View
Archive
There is also a function
that allows you to decrypt only a portion of what someone has sent you. For
instance if someone sends you an entire encrypted directory or file folder
but you only need 3 of the documents, you can pick only these documents to
decrypt. To access this function choose views> view archive and select
the encrypted directory or folder you wish to extract the documents
from. Once you click open you will see the browse archive window here
you can select the documents you wish to Extract (or
decrypt by them selves). In this window you also have the option to Freshen
Archive, which will check that the selected documents
are current and make sure you have the latest version. You can also Add a
document to the archive from an outside directory or Delete documents
that are in the archive that you will not need at all.
